About
Stories matter.
From the beginning the people of God told stories - of God at work in the world, of the faithfulness of God's people, and of the times God's people failed to remain faithful.
Over and over again we repeated stories of the creation of the world, of Abraham's call to the promised land, to Moses' call to lead the Hebrews out of slavery, of Jesus' incarnation, death and resurrection.
When we gather at family reunions, we recall the stories of our childhood and our parents' and grandparents' childhoods. We remember the special times together, and, sometimes, we remember the times when things were tough.
It is through this remembering of stories that we reclaim our identity. Our stories speak to who we were and who we are. And - our stories point to who we can become.
This site was created to celebrate the congregation that raised me, my husband and my children. Brookhaven United Methodist Church is so much a part of who I was, am and will become. These people have touched so many lives and I fear we might forget that fact. We have experienced times of great faithfulness and times when we have failed to remain faithful. It is important to remember both the good times and the not so good times.
These stories will come from many different sources and will take many different forms. If you love BUMC as I do and would like to contribute, please email your story to [email protected] for consideration. Text, pictures and recordings are welcome.
In 2023 Brookhaven will be celebrating its centennial. Let's use these stories to celebrate.
